Canon PowerShot A470 Review

Canon PowerShot A470 Review
Ok, I'll admit it. The Canon PowerShot A470 is far from the smallest camera on the market, and it's certainly not the sexiest. In spite of all this, when it was announced at PMA this year I'll also have to admit that I was impressed with how much new stuff Canon claimed to have packed into the A470. Short of no-name rebrands and $30 drug store digicams, this is about as far down the entry-level ladder as you can climb in the camera world, but don't let the price fool you: there's a surprising amount of camera here for such a small stack of cash.

Microsoft Health - A Glimpse Ahead

Microsoft Health - A Glimpse Ahead
The Microsoft Health concept video shown at MIX 08 is really cool. I can imagine how good it would be to see these things in reality!

I like the last scene where the woman flips her card out, puts her thumb print and it gives access to all of her other cards - Credit Card, Medical Card etc., :) And also the dosage of the Pills - Red indicating that its not taken and Green indicating that its taken.

The largest explosion ever seen

The largest explosion ever seen
March 22, 2008 Gamma-Ray Bursts are the most powerful explosive events in the Universe. They thankfully occur in far-off galaxies and hence are usually faint, but on the morning of March 19, 2008 the Swift satellite found a burst which was so bright it could be seen without binoculars or a telescope even though it was seven thousand times further away than the Andromeda galaxy. Put simply, it could be seen with the naked eye from a distance of over twenty billion light years from Earth. It turned out to be a great day for GRB hunters. The Swift satellite typically finds only two GRBs a week, but for the first time found five bursts within 24 hours. The second burst of the day was the new record holder. The enormous energy released in the explosion – brighter than the light from all of the stars in five million Milky Way Galaxies – was caused by the death of a massive star which collapsed to form a black hole. ..

Nokia 6121 classic BARGAIN! UMTS 900 here I come!
I just picked up a Nokia 6121 classic, yes that's right the only currently available 900MHz UMTS handset, for $305 off TradeMe BRAND NEW. Retail is $500! It is a Vodafone NZ one and was still in it's outer clear shrink wrap! Great phone, very small and feels well built (in Korea), the keypad is surprisingly easy to use given it's size. I have RoadSync running (for push email from Exchange) but unfortunately the ability to install it to the standby screen is reserved for E (and N?) series devices :-( (And Nokia's Mail For Exchange isn't an option for the same reason.) A Holux M-1200 Bluetooth GPS is next on the list!

Apache continues to dominate

Over the last couple of months, a lot has been written about the decline in market share for the Apache web server, and the increase in IIS deployments. The Netcraft studies on which this was based have themselves been criticised, however. It was poi... (more in the full post)

Spraydown achieves step change in spray suppression

Spraydown achieves step change in spray suppression
March 20, 2008 Driving in the rain on a motorway at speed is a hazardous endeavour as we all know, and perhaps the point when we all hold our breath most is in passing a heavy vehicle, with the spray obscuring our vision and the additional wind buffeting. Now, a British company has patented an innovation which has achieved a major reduction in spray obscuration – over and above the performance of existing mandatory spray suppression equipment. ..
