Batman - The Dark Knight

Batman - The Dark Knight
What an awesome film! Every Tuesday our flat has a movie night as its only $8 per ticket on Tuesday. Last Tuesday we went to the Dark Knight, although it went for 2 hours 45 min, it didnt actually feel that long which was great because I often start watching the time about half way through long movies, but not this time. The majority of people i've talked to have only gone to see the movie because of Heath Ledger and afterwards admitted they enjoyed the entire film. I recommend going to the cinema rather than waiting for the DVD to come out, mainly because its just so loud and really enhances the film. I'm not going to say anything about the actually storyline because I don't want to ruin it for anyone who hasn't seen it...

If I was going to rate this film out of 10 I would give it an 8!

How to take photos at night - DSLR Tips workshop

How to take photos at night - DSLR Tips workshop
Photos taken at night can produce spectacular results - in fact many cities present their best views after dark. Night photography can also be very forgiving in bad weather, so if rain's prevented you from grabbing the shots you want of a city, it's well worth trying again after sunset. Night photography can however prove quite a challenge in Automatic modes, but it's surprisingly easy with a few simple tricks and in our latest video workshop at DSLR Tips, we'll explain how.

Mobile coverage comes to Maungaraki - thanks to NZ Comms

If you live in Maungaraki (a hillside suburb in Lower Hutt) you'll realise that in many parts cellular coverage is terrible. This is because neither Vodafone or Telecom believe there is a need for sites and instead rely on coverage from other sites in the Hutt Valley basin below or in Vodafone's case coverage from a site on Mt Crowther in Wainuiomata.

Good news is on the way however, NZ Communications have applied to the Lower Hutt City Council for permission to put a cellsite at the top of Honeysuckle Grove (near the water tower) which would deliver great coverage. I'm not sure if this will be a standalone mast or panels mounted on the existing water tower which already houses radio gear for several organisations including Smartlinx3 who have equipment for their wireless broadband product.

If NZ Comms can do this why can't Vodafone or Telecom?

New Nikon D60 - deja-vu anyone?

Today Nikon announced the D60, a new budget DSLR which bears an uncanny resemblance to what we expect to become the discontinued D40x. It shares the same 10 Megapixel sensor, same 2.5in screen and essentially the same body and controls. New to the D60 are a stop-motion recording mode, eye sensors which switch the screen off when you're looking through the viewfinder, Active D-Lighting, and an anti-dust system which both vibrates the sensor unit along with using an airflow system to channel particles from the image path. Overall though, it's a minor refresh of an existing model, and as such a disappointment especially without a built-in AF motor for non-AF-S lenses. Those hoping to see a D80 successor will have to keep their fingers crossed Nikon's holding something back for PMA. The D60 is expected in February, costing 529 GBP / 791 EUR with the recently-announced stabilised DX 18-55mm VR kit lens. See the complete Nikon DSLR range. Read More

Olympus E-420 - full review and video tour

The Olympus E-420 is an unusually small and light 10 Megapixel DSLR aimed at point and shoot owners looking to upgrade, along with enthusiasts who want a camera they can use in situations where a traditional DSLR would be too cumbersome. It shares virtually the same design as its predecessor, the E-410, which makes it the World's smallest and lightest DSLR. New to the E-420 are enhanced Live View facilities with contrast-based AF, face detection and an 11-point AF system. The screen's also slightly bigger, there's a stack of customisation, support for wireless flash, shadow adjustment technology, a larger grip and an improved sensor. Coupled with the new slim pancake lens, the E-420 makes for an extremely compact DSLR, but does it compromise comfort, quality or usability? Find out in our Olympus E-420 review where we'll test it with the new 25mm lens, and as always for a demonstration of its highlights, see our E-420 video tour Read More

What makes life? (Kinstens Interpretation)

What makes life? (Kinstens Interpretation)
Is it a rose that opens in the morning light?
A new leaf upon each twig, that grew from humble beginnings?

The branch that broke will turn into the scar for life. The scar of emotion runs deep within us all, this injures everyone slowly but surely.  Until the only way out of your own emotion turns to destruction.  Destruction turns to chaos.  Chaos turns to the way the world is operating at present with only a small amount of reason and intelligent thought.

Don’t believe everything that you see,
Because seeing isn’t believing,
Feeling is.

If I was to die today,
Would I be remembered tomorrow?

Would life go on without me?
Or does someone else’s existence end with mine?

If truth is letting people know the details of something real,
Does that mean reality is a truth only known to you?
Or is truth and reality far more complicated than that?
You could believe anything that someone tells you,
Or decide to think they are lying.
Either way your own decision is what you choose to believe.
Which in turn makes reality your own creation of thoughts comprised of facts given by not only yourself, but other people as well.  How these facts are interpreted depends on the translator.  You!

If something is too difficult, would you try your best to solve it, or simply give in and let someone else figure it out.

Thought, emotion, truth, justice, wisdom, creation, intellect, visualisation, hands on experience.
Does everything come down to what the individual is capable of, or rather what the individual is willing to accomplish.

You have to experience happiness to know sadness.  You have to experience love to know hate.  If there is one thing that lives alone in this world, without needing to relate to another.  Show me this thing, for it will be a beautiful thing indeed.

 To fly is to fall,
To swim is to run,
To walk is to crawl,
To speak is to be silent,
To create is to imitate,
To build is to destroy,
To make peace is to make war!

Everything exists for a reason, and there is always balance.  When there is too much of one thing there has to be an equal amount of the other to compensate for the balance lost with the first.

Begin your day with birds in mind,
Never let the dawn show its face,
You will crawl upon any road given to you,
And you will find the path that suits you.

Am I going insane or is it just a figment of my imagination.  If I was going insane, would I be trying to figure it out, or would I just ignore it and let things happen as they do.  Because when thoughts take over my life, I feel responsible for all the thoughts that are approaching my life.
Never get too involved.
Never hold a grudge.
Never begin something if you do not intend to finish it.
